Resources for Self-Represented Litigants

Welcome

This portal provides information on what is expected of you, and instructions to be followed, if you bring your own application for leave to appeal or if you have been named as a respondent on an application for leave to appeal.

Leave to Appeal Assistance Project

  • Consult the Law Help Ontario site if you are appealing a case from Ontario, or inquiring about where you may apply for free or low-cost legal services.
  • If you are seeking leave to appeal a case to the Supreme Court and wish to apply for help from the Supreme Court of Canada Leave to Appeal Assistance Project, download the application form from the Law Help Ontario website. If you are appealing from outside Ontario, you may still apply for assistance and efforts will be made by Pro Bono Law Ontario (PBLO) which is administrating the Supreme Court of Canada Leave to Appeal Assistance Project, to refer you to local services.
  • To obtain information on how you can find a lawyer or where you can get free or low-cost legal services, consult the Public Legal Information and Education Sites page.
