The applicant, P. A., applied to the Superior Court in 2022 for various orders, mainly for the purpose of finding his child. That safeguard application was part of a multitude of proceedings brought by P. A. since 2017 in order to have his status as the child’s father recognized and to obtain contact with the child. The safeguard application in question sought, among other things, orders against several federal bodies. The Superior Court dismissed the application for lack of jurisdiction. It found that the orders sought constituted remedies in the nature of a writ of mandamus, a writ of certiorari or an injunction and that these types of extraordinary remedies against federal boards, commissions or other tribunals are within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Federal Court. The Court of Appeal dismissed P. A.’s appeal because it found no error by the first instance judge that could warrant its intervention.
