Summary

Case summaries are prepared by the Office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada (Law Branch). Please note that summaries are not provided to the Judges of the Court. They are placed on the Court file and website for information purposes only.

A jury convicted Mr. Little of manslaughter and second degree murder. The trial was held in English and French and an interpreter was present at all times. No issues regarding the interpretation were raised during the trial, but on appeal, Mr. Little argued that the interpretation was not accurate and that a new trial should therefore be ordered. The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal, concluding that Mr. Little had access to consecutive interpretation that was continuous, precise, impartial, competent and contemporaneous, even if it was not perfect at all times.
