S.N.L. pleaded guilty to sexual interference against a 7 year-old girl, failing to appear on the initial sentencing date, and breaching a condition of a release order. The sentencing judge imposed a ten-year sentence for the sexual interference offence and two consecutive sentences of three months for the other offences. A majority of the Court of Appeal allowed an appeal from the sentence for sexual interference and substituted an eight year sentence.
