The Right Honorable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada
The Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner is the eighteenth Chief Justice of Canada. He was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada in 2012 and became Chief Justice in 2017.
As Chief Justice of Canada, he also presides over the Canadian Judicial Council, National Judicial Institute, and the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada. Chief Justice Wagner currently serves as president of the Association des Cours Constitutionnelles Francophones, an international judicial organization. The Chief Justice of Canada is also currently serving as the administrator of the Government of Canada until such a time as the next governor general is installed. Read more >>
Samy Khalid, Chief Herald of Canada
Samy Khalid was appointed the third Chief Herald of Canada in 2020, after having been Saguenay Herald since 2014 and acting assistant director of the Canadian Heraldic Authority since 2019. His prior career experience includes working as a translator, editor, consultant, policy analyst and manager, both in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Dr. Khalid holds a Doctorate in History, with his research focusing on the construction of Canadian identity.
Chantal Carbonneau, Registrar Designate of the SCC
Chantal Carbonneau is the Registrar Designate of the Supreme Court of Canada. She joined the Court in October 2020.
Ms. Carbonneau was previously Deputy Chief Administrator (DCA), Judicial and Registry Services at Courts Administration Service. In that capacity, she was responsible for the strategic direction, management and control of the delivery of judicial programs and services; the exercise of certain quasi-judicial authorities; and the provision of judicial support services for the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and the Tax Court of Canada.
Prior to her appointment as DCA, Ms. Carbonneau was the Executive Director and General Counsel for the Federal Court of Appeal and the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada.
Ms. Carbonneau was also Acting General Counsel at the Copyright Board of Canada, and Director, Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Prior to this position with the CBC, Ms. Carbonneau worked in private practice, in Collective Societies and Legal Aid.
Ms. Carbonneau completed her Law Degree at Sherbrooke University and was called to the Bar in 1989. She has completed courses at the Master Degree Program of the École nationale d’administration publique.
