Hearings at the SCC during the pandemic
Due to the pandemic, the Supreme Court Building has been closed to visitors since March 2020. The Main Courtroom was adapted to permit the Justices to hear appeals together safely. There are now two benches so that there is greater distance between the Justices. As well, Plexiglas dividers have been installed wherever it is not possible to maintain a safe distance between participants. Since the start of the pandemic, most counsel have been appearing before the Court via Zoom, with hearings being livestreamed as per the Court’s usual practice.
