Summary

Case summaries are prepared by the Office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada (Law Branch). Please note that summaries are not provided to the Judges of the Court. They are placed on the Court file and website for information purposes only.

The Crown’s theory is that Mr. Lee murdered Ms. Hua when she threatened to expose him for having gambled away money she had given him to invest. The Crown’s evidence included two statements to police by Mr. Lee which were admitted at trial without a voir dire into their admissibility. A jury convicted Mr. Lee of first degree murder. The Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal.
