In November 2023, applicant Shakara Courtenay Walker was found guilty of breaching a term of a release order. Ms. Walker appealed her conviction to the summary conviction appeal court. The appeal was dismissed in July 2024.

In the Fall of 2025, Ms. Walker brought a motion before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, seeking an extension of time to file a motion for leave to appeal. The motion was dismissed.
